About Grandma’s Marathon

This is one of the most iconic road races in the United States. Founded in 1977 by a local group of runners, the event has grown from 150 participants into a world-class marathon welcoming more than 20,000 runners each June.

The race is widely recognized for combining elite-level organization with small-town charm. The course follows the scenic shores of Lake Superior, offering a calm start before building into an energetic and crowd-filled finish in Duluth, Minnesota.

In addition to the full marathon, the weekend includes the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the William A. Irvin 5K, making it a multi-day celebration of running and community.
