About Dallas Marathon

This is Texas’ oldest running marathon and one of the most established endurance events in the state. It began in 1971 as the Dallas White Rock Marathon, with its first race held at White Rock Lake and 82 runners participating. Over time, the event gained national attention and steadily expanded in size and scope.

In 2012, the race was rebranded, with the start and finish lines relocated to Downtown Dallas. The marathon operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and community engagement through running events. It also supports charitable initiatives, with Scottish Rite for Children serving as its primary beneficiary.

Now in its more than 50-year history, the BMW Marathon attracts thousands of runners and spectators each year, making it Dallas’ largest single-day sporting event.
